Find and replace leaves semi colon

I'm having the same issue, but haven't been able to solve it by changing fonts.

 

I am on ACAD 2008.

 

I am using F&R on "~" to change to "1" or "2" or "3", etc.

I understand I need to use reverse quote "`" in front to get ACAD to take "~" literally, i.e. "`~". (http://blog.jtbworld.com/2005/08/find-more-in-autocad-2006.html)

When I run F&R on the mtext "~1+00", it returns ";11+00".

When I try to F&R the ";", I can't get rid of it.
