I have no idea where this question should go so i put it here

 

So my company currently uses AutoCAD 2010 LT and after spending hours doing 2 isometric views as 'pretty pictures' for the client I have been told that the design is to go ahead so now i need to draw it in ortho ... I want to convince my manager to invest in full blown AutoCAD for the 3d capabilities... from what I have seen I can draw a wire model then rotate it to be an isometric or an orthographic drawing, this would save me hours! of re-drawing things as I am having to do now, what I ask of you is: what are the main benefits of investing in Full AutoCAD rather than LT? I want to give him a good strong proposal and you wonderful people know it all! so fire away!!

You'll have FULL 3D capabilities.

 

You'll be able to extract all your 2D views, including sections and isometrics, from your 3D models.

 

You'll be able to use lisp routines which can be real time savers for doing repetitive tasks. Examples of these are included with full AutoCAD under the heading of Express Tools.

You've pretty much answered your own question really in that you'll be able to extract all of the neccessary 2D info from your 3D model with a few clicks. Have a look at some youtube (or other) tutorials on the subject and you'll see just how much time and effort can be saved doing things this way. I'm still stuck with 2007 (due to a tight boss) and it does me ok but I downloaded 2012 free trial last year and had a play and loved how quickly I could produce drawings without having to repeat things

Drawing Isometric drawings in 2D can be very time consuming as I'm sure you know!!

Show the price difference between LT and Full AutoCAD, then show the hours saved x your cost per hour + the better quality presentation.

You will have BASEVIEW commands so drawing in 3D means you can have associated 2D views with little effort. When you update the model the views made from BASEVIEW will be updated automatically. This includes sections and details.

On the 30-day show your boss how quickly you can create any desired 3D view.

Show your boss how quickly you can create standard dimensioned 2D documentation (that are correct - based on the single source of truth, the 3D model of what will be made).

Show your boss how the customer can rotate the 3D design in their web browser without having AutoCAD (*.dwfx)

On the 31 day work up a cost/benefit analysis showing time savings, reduced errors and communication improvements with customers. (If you really impress your boss with the demo - you might not have to go to this effort.)

Sid0201 what are you trying to draw this would have been my first question in reponse to this post, do you need MEp Revit Architectural Civ3d ? Like the others once you enter the advances of customistation you will never look back tasks taking 20mins now 2-3 seconds.
