Hi

 

Not sure if you mean how to improve AutoCAD or how to improve Forum...I do have a thought on AutoCAD tho...

 

Here goes....

 

I use x-ref's inserted in model space and label in paper space - always.

 

I would like to see a way of locking out model space while editting text in paper space. Unless you double click right on the text, you often end up in Model Space...I know - big deal right? It can become annoying or a big deal when a deadline is looming - when is one never? Also big fan of locking viewports, that has saved many a heart attack!

 

I am not a Newbie, I have been around since Version 10, so I really appreciate all the improvements, each version gets a little better.

 

Anyone else have a solution or any thoughts on this?

Change SPACESWITCH to 0 and no more dbl clicking and going into MS.

There are plenty that I don't know, and lots more I have never, nor likely ever will use. Be that as it may,

I have spent a fair amount of time looking through them...I would have thought I would notice one as interesting as that!

One I wasn't aware of either. Handy. I'll add to my text macro to turn off before setting the text layer and back on again after. the click through is very handy otherwise. OLD DOG NEW TRICK

Does this switch only affect the double click into the viewport, or does it also disable the tabs and/or the mspace/pspace flip?

Dana, I feel better now. Having just gone to do a screen shot of the SYSVDLG for you regarding this primordial command,

known only to the chosen crusty few (amongst whom rkent is revered as a fence post of the virtually secret society)...it isn't shown there.

Apparently failure to supply the secret alias or touch screen prestidigitation relegates you to 'outside the tenured kludgemeister fold' status.

I hope that rkent's revelation of the secret sign, for the common good, won't impugn his standing amongst his old guard brethren.

 

It doesn't even come up in the auto-complete commandline prompts!

But it is still in the software.

It is just a switch though, 0 or 1, for off or on, and only affects the double-click through the viewport access to modelspace, all of the other routes are unaffected.

My most recent client certainly thinks I am THE Klooodge MASTER, but for other reasons completely.

 

Wherever you're finding it, it doesn't exist in 2009 LT. I guess AutoDesk figured it was one of those bones LT could stand without. It sure woulda come in handy a coupla weeks ago. I found one pspace layout in a drawing with three overlapping viewports, a finish schedule xref'd, and attributed blocks on top of the finish schedule. Clicking on anything just a little askew of an object and I would fall through one looking glass or another.

dadgad - I was given this little kludge 7 or 8 years ago by Autodesk, I was working on Beta testing and suddenly lost the ability to dblclk into a viewport. They wrote back with that SpaceSwitch setting.
