Reduce 3ds file size?

I'm working on an architectural model and it has quite a number of hi-poly tree models. My file size currently stands at 2.4gb. Is there anyway I can reduce the size?

I figured it out. Thanks so much! Didn't know it was this easy. I was afraid of having to upgrade my RAM as my scene alone takes up 12-13gb of RAM, out of my available 16. The proxies helped to reduce the file size considerably

Yeah proxies are awesome. :)

I used to struggle with projects containing lots of trees and shrubs, and my computer would slow to a crawl. But once I started using proxies it made my life so much easier.

i rarely use them

If you do landscape/environment work, with lots of high poly trees and shrubs, proxies are a must. I've worked on scenes containing several hundred plants and trees and there is no way I could have done that without proxies. My computer would have choked and died.
