I worked on it intermittently----not that it matters,but the panic was down to an emergency at the hospital. no idea what happened, but I don't recall doing anything unusual. ReMark Posted February 5, 2013 Share Posted February 5, 2013 Assuming BAK files are created every time the drawing is saved then all you lost is 5 minutes of work. Most of the time BAK files will be saved in the same folder as the DWG file. It is usually just a matter of renaming a BAK file to DWG to resurrect a previous version of a drawing. Question is, when you opened the file and saw nothing did you first attempt a Zoom > Extents to see if the file really was a big blank or did you just assume so? Checked the drawing list------only a limited number indicate .bak files,but not this one. Think I'll bite the bullet and start again! ReMark Posted February 5, 2013 Share Posted February 5, 2013 I don't understand how you can open a drawing that was done previously, work on it for 5 minutes, forget to save it and not be able to reopen the original DWG file. The solution is trivial. Attach the dwg file here. You never answered the question about what Windows Explorer reports as the file size. Ubrigens Posted February 6, 2013 Author Share Posted February 6, 2013 The problem is,that I thought I had saved the file in my normal manner,but in the flap at the time I have obviously not done so. The file size ,currently, is 62.3KB. I have located a .BAK file but that is the same size and I cannot open it anyway. I do find meaningless and trivial not particularly helpful in this context-----but then you don't have the problem. Dadgad Posted February 6, 2013 Share Posted February 6, 2013 (edited) We are not laughing at you, but rather trying to help. All you need to do, if you have the .bak file, is to change the name so that you replace .bak with .dwg. You will then be able to open it with Autocad. The purpose of the .bak file is to always provide a safety valve, when things like this happen, and sooner or later it will happen. Click on the name of the file and choose RENAME from the right click menu and change that file type and you should be back in the game. I hope that helps you.
