TopLine Posted June 27, 2013 Share Posted June 27, 2013 New to this forum, first post. I am currently using autocad 2002. An engineering firm has sent me a dwg file that was created using a much newer version of autocad. I asked them to save it back to version 2000, so I can open it. Well, I can open the file, but I'm getting this command "ARXERROR: eNotThatKindOfClass.. whenever I do a basic command?? How do I fix this? Now I have gotten dwg files from other firms, and they have worked flawlessly. Would it be how this particular firm has saved the file? RobDraw Posted June 27, 2013 Share Posted June 27, 2013 They "Saved As" to 2000 format. This is not the proper way as you have found out. Get yourself a copy of Drawing TrueView, free from Autodesk, to convert the files properly. Use the original file, not the one that they saved down for you. I got to the part where it said I had to download Microsoft Net Framework 4.0 or greater, (or something like that), but I didn't see the download for that version? If you are just needing to use the geometry, then what I do is to open a new drawing with my template and x-ref their drawing into it. That way, you do not get this constant "ARXERROR: eNotThatKindOfClass". It would be kinder to you if they could export to AutoCAD 2000 for you, but some folk do not have the ability to do that You can not do anything. It has to be done by the originating programme. RobDraw Posted June 27, 2013 Share Posted June 27, 2013 Yes, is absolutely can. That error can happen from a .dwg that was created with vanilla CAD and "Saved As" an older version. It doesn't necessarily mean that the file was created with a vertical product, just a newer one. RobDraw Posted June 27, 2013 Share Posted June 27, 2013 We may be talking about different things. If you have the original file TrueView will convert it correctly. eldon Posted June 27, 2013 Share Posted June 27, 2013 I get sent original versions of drawings and after DWG TrueView's conversion I still get the "ARXERROR: eNotThatKindOfClass". eldon Posted June 27, 2013 Share Posted June 27, 2013 I was not aware that Dwg TrueView could explode objects. Perhaps you could take it from me that I find there are problems. I have tried to the new drawing, xref thing but I don't get all the geometry in the xref for some odd reason? I tried to download version 4.5 in microsoft net but it said my computer does not support that file. There is a tavern in my near future. If you cannot see the necessary geometry, then you must contact the originator, and possibly they will be able to Export to r2000. Yes I had that problem with my old computer, but it died last year, and the new computer was more modern and was able to handle things better.
