How much will an older version of Inventor cost?

Dear all,

I want to buy Inventor for my work. However, I cannot afford USD4000 to buy the latest version. Is there any place that sell Inventor at a lower price? I don't mind to buy an old version (maybe 2012 instead of the latest 2014)

Thanks

Autodesk doesn't sell prior versions. It's like trying to buy a 2011 Mustang straight from the Ford factory in 2013.

Sometimes you can buy this year's and next year's, for instance 2013 or 2014 versions through resellers like Amazon, but only for a short while. It looks like that "short while" for the current releases has passed.

Any other copies you might find, are probably not licensable because Autodesk licenses are not transferable.

If you bring in students say from a university on a placement you are entitled to set them up with a student version on the latest Autodesk products other than that you have to play the full price for the latest version.

I have never heard of student license that allows commercial use.

My boss bought an AutoCad 2011 (NOT LT version) on Aug 2013. The price was around $1000 (Note: the latest version should be around $5000.). The DVD did not come with a BIG box, but it came with a nice DVD case. We could not directly active online by click the active online button in AutoCad. We needed to call a 800 number and went to a NON autodesk website, we also need to download a small program from the website to active the Autocad. Do you think my boss was cheated ?

Thanks

You'll know in 30 days when the trial period ends.

My personal opinion is your boss bought a pirated copy of the program which means he can't go directly to an authorized AutoDesk reseller or to AutoDesk itself if he has any problems.

Given you had to call the 800 number, I doubt he was cheated.

That sounds a little fishy...

I couldn't consider your boss as being the one that got "cheated" if he paid $1K instead of it's retail value of $3995

The DVD did not come with a BIG box, but it came with a nice DVD case.

The days of display boxes is just about gone. Autodesk shipped 2011 to me in a single DVD case which contained 3 disks. The DVD case was inside a plain cardboard jacket, which was inside a bubble wrap envelope.

Unless there was a connection problem between your computer and the Autodesk website, I can't think of a reason a legal and authentic software license will not activate online

We needed to call a 800 number and went to a NON autodesk website

A number that wasn't Autodesk? Are we still having a conversation about whether this software was authentic/legal? :glare:

"the website" ? A website other than something within the Autodesk.com domain? If so, that would be the program that "cracks" the pirated software.

Do you think my boss was cheated ?

More likely your boss cheated Autodesk. (and everyone else that pays to use the software legally)

Are you sure that you received a single DVD case which contained 3 disks?

My boss received 2 disks only. One is a 64 bit installation, one is a 32 bit installation disk

As I recall, "the 800 number guy" only asked me the activation code "00XXX" when I called them to active the AutoCad. Yes, I called 800 number because my boss passed the DVD to me. "The 800 number guy" would ask me to go to "http://nationalsla.org/2011.php" . Then he would give me a "Login password" to the site, ask me to download and run a small program. The program would auto pilot and then a long long AutoCad code itself.

Does "http://nationalsla.org/2011.php" sound some thing reasonable website? Do you think Autodesk and "nationalsla.org" somehow connect? I just google it, but could not see any record.

Yes (see attached)

Thanks. May I know to your knowledge whether Autodesk makes different DVD sets? What I mean is that you buy a 3 disks combo and there is other 2 disks combo in the market?

Although I believe my question is a bit meaningless (If I am Autodesk, I would just make 3 disks. The 2 disks and 3 disks cost may be just 1 cent only), I would like to give the 800 number company "benefit of the doubt".

The disks that my boss received look similar but have different. I will try to see whether I can get a picture.

Looks exactly how I was ripped off after buying what I thought was a legit copy of Win 7 Ultimate 64-bit off of eBay. The program went belly up after 30 days and I was out my money. The packaging and the disc looked as authentic as it could be right down to the enclosed documentation. Turned out it wasn't.

Go to Help>About AutoCAD...>Product Information

what does it list the License usage type indicate? What is the license expiration date?

I couldn't say whether AutoCAD2011 was also available in a 2 disk package. but I can say that AutoCAD2012 and AutoCAD2013, only contained two disks each (1 each for 32/64 bit)

I also bought a copy of WinXP Pro on eBay. It looked exactly like every other OEM Windows disk I've ever bought, hologram and everything. (OEM because I built my own computers) When I tried to activate, it told me I wasn't authentic. I can't recall which, but I either called or emailed Microsoft's Anti-Piracy department, they asked me to send them the disk, including documentation of where I purchased it, and they mailed me a replacement at no charge.

I believe cracked software and software using stolen serial numbers may have the same license type as authentic software because illegal keygens use the same product information and request codes to generate the activation code as Autodesk would use.

....may have the same license type as authentic software .....

More of a curiosity question from me. Especially the expiration date.

I should have clarified this would be for the student to use and learn from in the work place and not for commercial use.
