PotGuy
Hey all, Starting to poke around in 3DSMax. Just curious as to what settings you would recommend when starting up 3DSMax for rendering, working etc. I'd label my self as 'newbie' as outside of knowing how to move the camera, import an AutoCAD file I made, add texture and the render button I'm not sure on how to best go about things. PotGuy
Been thinking about it, I suppose what I'm really after is how to increase the resolution of the render, improve the quality of the render, whether there's any good positions for lighting and just anything you guys may think will help. This is a bit of an ask, so to anyone who contributes.
Cad64
I suppose what I'm really after is how to increase the resolution of the render, improve the quality of the render, whether there's any good positions for lighting and just anything you guys may think will help. Lighting: If you're doing an exterior rendering, pretty much all you need is a Daylight System. Interior lighting is a little more difficult and will be different for every scene. There are lots of tutorials covering interior lighting in Studio Max, just do a Google search: https://www.google.com/#sclient=psy-ab&q=autodesk+3ds+max+mental+ray+interior+lighting&oq=autodesk+3ds+max+mental+ray+interior+lighting&gs_l=hp.12...9523.11222.5.13042.11.11.0.0.0.0.110.980.10j1.11.0....0...1c.1.23.psy-ab..20.62.4353.Xa1IbKuYtfo&pbx=1&bav=on.2,or.r_qf.&bvm=bv.50165853,d.cGE&fp=a22f26d31d487d98&biw=1448&bih=863 Rendering: There are many factors to consider when rendering. I assume you're using Mental Ray? Again, there are lots of tutorials online, but here's one to get you started: http://www.3dtotal.com/tutorial/3d_studio_max/architectural_visualization_rendering/architectural_visualization_01.php If you seriously want to learn about materials, lighting and rendering in Studio Max I would recommend getting this book: http://www.amazon.com/3ds-Arch-Mesa-College-Bundle/dp/0240808932/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1375458351&sr=8-2-fkmr0&keywords=Rendering+with+Mental+Ray+and+3ds+Max%3A+1st+Edition
