How to change obj Layer without changing color, line Types etc (AutoCad 2010)

Recommended Posts

I have been trying different way for chaging to layer (by Layer or by block) but the color and linetype were changed. on the image, the Leg on the left was on the wrong layer so i made layer called "Legs" i selected the legs and when the quick properties window pop up where it said layer i clicked drop menu and changed to layer called Legs, all colors changed to white and all linetype became continuos line (RIGHT IMAGE). How can i change to the proper layer but keep everything to remain the same as the leg shown on the left? Thanks

When the object property is set to "By layer", the object's color changes to what ever the color property of the layer is, thus "By Layer".

Change the Legs layer color property to the color you want the legs to be.

The command is Layer. This opens the layer manager dialog window. Then click on the color that is in the color column in that layer's row. You will be given the color selection box.

I don't mean this in an insulting way, but some of the questions you have asked lead me to think you are missing a great deal of fundamental information. Are you teaching yourself AutoCad while working with it at the same time, or are you a student?

It may help you a lot to follow one of the FREE beginner tutorials found here on the forum. They can be located with the first button on the left of the forum menu bar.

Yes, pretty much as begginer, this is a great site to learn, i also learn from Mycad site.com, they have a really great demo. when i did self study over on youtube, they are many tutorials out there that were made by 2012 to 2014, but i am still on Autocad 2010, the tools are still being used the same but I would be lost when i upgrade to higher version of CAD. There are so much to learn everyday. Greatly appreciate you helps Dana. I will messing around with Layers for now.
