What situations in lofting result in non-meaningful results?

I am attempting a fairly simple loft. I wish to create a lofted surface from two curves drawn on planes 90 degrees from each other, with end points coincident. The issue arises when I add rails. I have performed similar lofts before without issue and I am wondering why this particular operation does not produce a meaningful result. My rails are separate 3D sketches, and they are coincident to both curves.

I have attached my .ipt file: I am trying to loft the red curve (sketch 7) to the orange curve (within sketch 8) using the magenta rails (3d sketches 12 and 13)

I have since discovered my points were not actually coincident! It seems that always turns out to be the case with lofting errors...

Glad you found the solution. Lofting can be achieved by following basic rules if do not follow the rules it will not loft. Welcome to the forum :)

I am receiving the "non-meaningful results" message when I try to apply a loft between three faces. Two are on the XZ plane and the third is on the plane perpendicular to where the other two faces meet. Is it possible to make this loft since all three faces meet at one line?

Your endpoints between sketches are not connected.

I can say that in all my years using Inventor - I have never seen anything remotely similar to your design.

Can you attach image or link to something similar to what you are trying to model?

Have you ever used the Project Geometry tool to tie together sketches?

Zoom way in on the corners where it "looks" like they meet.

Notice that they do not meet.
