Compound circular curve fitting

How to draw a compound circular curve when the drawing have two fixed tangent points and tangent bearing, however one radius is unknowcircularcurve.thumb.png.52d7c757ef587164513972d1960002d1.png.

I find it easier to draw circles and then trim afterwards.

 

So in this case, draw the two tangents, and the known circle (red circle in picture). Then the blue circle is drawn by using three points, which are Tangent to red circle, Tangent to tangent B and Endpoint of Tangent B.

 

The compound curve is the dashed cyan line.

Just thinking about the geometry like this is why cad is cool.

When you think about it, this shape is basically representative of a gravity assist.
