Area of a sphere with rectangular prism removed?

Recommended Posts

I am trying to develop a method for calculating the volume of a sphere (36 in diameter) with a rectangular prism (24 in x 24 in) removed through the center, end to end.

The sphere can be any diameter but the rectangular prism must be less than the prism diameter.

Can someone draw this for me and give me the final volume with specific diameter and prism dimensions? I need a way to verify if my answer is correct while developing this method. I only draw in ACAD LT and don't have access to 3D.

Thanks in advance for your help. Tinker Cad illustrations attached for clarity.

Thank you for replaying. I only have AutoCad LT so no 3D for me. However, I did get this worked out on paper.

36" Diameter Sphere

24" x 24" void removed through the center axis side-to-side.

7,211.3073 cu inches.

If someone has some free time to check this, I would appreciate it.

I modeled this and after subtracting the rectangular column through dead center of the sphere,

and using the MASSPROP command found that the properties for the remaining portion of the sphere are as shown in the screenshot.
