jwfilion Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 I am new to AutoCAD, so please be gentle. First, a little background. I'm a machinist/toolmaker and use AutoCAD 14.01 for mechanical drawings. I have only used the basics till recently. After tiring of making the same bolt patterns on every new drawing, I tried my hand at making them into blocks. I have failed miserably! I trolled here and found info on the blocks and have successfully created one in a .dwg called "Threads", but I can only insert it into that .dwg, but no others. I read that if you make a new toolbar, that you can insert that block into the toolbar and insert it into other .dwgs from this "Block" toolbar. I haven't been able to figure out how to get the block into the toolbar. I assume the answers given here, were for another version than mine. I downloaded some 2D blocks from another website and my r14 doesn't recognize any of them. All I've learned has been from online tutorials. I would appreciate any help with this. Quote
rkmcswain Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 * Open the drawing that contains your block. * Run the ._WBLOCK command. * The first thing it will ask is for a file name. * Remember the path and file name that you give it. * The next prompt is "block name" - enter the name of the existing block here. * That is it, you have copied the block to a DWG file. * Close that drawing * Now open any other drawing, and run the ._INSERT command. * Press ~ and if you want to browse to it, or just enter the full path. * Finish answering the prompts, and now you have just inserted a copy of that block.
