Stan Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 Quick one there for those of ye in the know... I have just installed AutoCAD Architecture 2009 and i am having trouble with my CUI settings. When logged on as admin there is no issue at all with CUI settings...it just takes you right in and all the tools are available. When logged in as a user with admin rights it seems to lose all CUI settings and even when i trace the file back through settings it cant see or recognise the CUI file. You end up with nothing on the workspace screen. Its kinda hard to explain but has anyone any idea how this could be the case? The software was initially installed when i was logged on as admin but since then i have uninstalled it and re-installed as a user and the same issue occurs. All help welcome Quote
Hedgehog Posted May 23, 2008 Posted May 23, 2008 Not sure why it should still not work after an un/reinstall but I'd check your C:\Documents and Settings\*me*\Application Data\Autodesk\* ACAD APPLICATION * 2009 directories have all they're supposed to have in (esp. Support)... try a copy & paste in from the C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Autodesk & check that your options/files settings are looking in the correct place... you may well have tried all of this already in which case I'm stumped. a1454 Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 Hi, I was encountering the same problem in my office, and I happen to be the system admin here so its kinda became my job to fix it. After a whole morning of struggling I think I've solved it. In my case, the problem seems to be that the user account that's using AutoCAD can't find the acad.cui file even though its there with all permission set correctly. The reason for that is because the first time that user runs AutoCAD, it will try to setup a default workspace, and if the AutoCAD setup media is not connected to the computer (maybe on a network drive/ usb drive/ cd...etc), the process will fail, and it WILL NOT attempt to do it again. So after this point, it doesn't matter if you re-install AutoCAD it will still have the same problem, because the problem exist in that particular user account. In my case, all our employee's user profile is saved on our Domain Controller server, and whenever they log in to their workstation, it will download a copy of that profile from the server to their hard drive. In order to solve it, you have to first manually backup all files from that user's account, for example, copy all the files out from "Desktop", "My Documents", "Favorites". the point here is DON'T copy out the entire profile, you just want the user's important documents out. After that's done, remove that user profile completely, delete the entire user name from "Documents and Settings" folder. and if you have the same setup like I have here, also delete all the contents in the server copy of that user's profile. Now, log in to that user's account and it should recreate everything from scratch, CONNECT the source of the AutoCAD install file. For example, if its installed from network, make sure that network drive is available with the same drive letter when used for install, if you are not sure, just uninstall AutoCAD from an admin account and reinstall it again, but this time don't remove the media right after installation. After the media source is connected, just run AutoCAD from whichever user account that needs it. there should be a dialog box saying something like: "Installing AutoCAD 2009 blah blah" after that it will function normally from this point on. and you can remove the installation media. Tip: If you are an IT admin and have a similar setup like mine, I suggest you give the network drive that has all the applications' read permission to all domain users, and try to install all the stuff they need from there, so this type of thing shouldn't happen that much. However, the user probably won't be able to completely install or reinstall or modify things because he doesn't have the local admin rights. Quote
