Full/Relative Paths and the ability to edit

I'm not sure if it's just my machine, my program, or what, but I've noticed a very peculiar situation when it comes to editing X-refs in place (as opposed to opening the xref dwg itself):

When an XR is attached with a relative path, 99% of the time I go to edit it in place I receive the following:

** 1 object removed from selection set.
** AcDbOle2Frame objects cannot be edited in place.
Errors found in references to other objects:
** AcDbOle2Frame objects cannot be referenced.

and am unable to edit the xref unless I open the .dwg itself.

This hardly ever happens when the XR is attached with a full path. I'm not saying it doesn't occur once in a blue moon, but it's almost gauranteed that if it's a relative path, it's going to be a hassle about a quick edit.

Is there something I don't know about here? I've tried it on the different machines, and it seems to be a consistent thing. We're using ACAD '07.

I had the same problem and same error message.

To sort out the problem I have selected 'Prompt to select nested objects' radio button in the Reference Edit window that pops up.

This way I was able to select Xref file partailly to eliminate parts that did not give error message when selewcted to finally find the part giving error message.

In the end I have found that there was an OLE object (Picture) that was copied-pasted that was not referenced correctly as the file it was created from was moved somewhere else or deleted.

To do the same thing you need to identify an OLE object by the same method. Best way to do this is by first selecting half and then finding half part giving error and then going in halves continually till you locate the object giving error.
