blatz.boy Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 I apologize if my question becomes more complicated than is needed; hopefully, the answer will be more simple. Is there a way to create an association between various texts in a drawing? Or is there a way that a block can be updated without losing existing block references when its redefined? For instance, on a wall type floor plan where the same wall type callout is used multiple times to reference the wall section, if the name of a particular wall type changes on the detail sheet, the detail callouts would need to be updated. In the past, I have tried putting each wall type callout on separate layers, isolate the layer I need, then select all texts and update them in the properties palette. Or, create an xref for each callout. Though, I'd prefer to get away from these. At this time, I don’t have a need to compile a schedule of wall type information so I don’t need to use an attribute. But, similarly I wonder, can an attribute be automatically updated by modifying the Excel file that was created as the result of a data extraction? I believe this will work for the table itself but can the update include the attribute? Sorry for the multiple topics, but all I really need to know is how to make the block work or how to associate the texts. Thanks in advance for all replies Quote
BIGAL Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 Try "Find" its a search and replace text option may do what you want. Else probably a lisp or vba needs to be used. Quote
spotted zebra Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 yes you have to go to format>text and create a new one at the beginning of the drawing. you can create multiple styles so you can change easily. the great thing about this function is if you need to change all the text at once later in your drawing you just edit the style in format>text and it will change them all. as for changing them all at once with out having this set up i think you in for some tedious work my friend. hope this answers your question.
