b.muqlueen Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 Ok. here is my problem. i am doing a drawing, with an xrefed bkrd. I am doing 3d modeling in the drawing. I am dimensioning in paper space. when i dimensioning i will dimension of a beam(which is the xref) to an object i drew. Normally this dimension is correct. But the follow dimension which is usually a continued dimension from the object i drew to another object. This dimension is always off. Any dimension from and object i drew is always the dimension. for instance a 3 foot or 10 foot dimension when done in paper space is always 1" or less. My dimassoc. is set to 2 My dimlfac is set to 1 My dimscale is set to 0 any suggestions. Its really slowing my work pace. Quote
rkent Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 Are you trying to dim from one viewport to another? If so, AutoCAD can't handle that and so you will get the results you are seeing. If not, are you snapping to the objects in MS? That is another requirement to get the correct dim. Quote

I am a little confused by what you are saying about dimensioning and snapping objects in ms. So i should lock my viewport(for zooming purposes) Click the tab to switch from Paper to model space(while still viewing in paper space) and dimension that way? I tried that and it seems to defeat the purpose of dimension in paper space, if i got that right. Quote

Since it is 3D work, make sure the osnap is actually grabbing the geometry you are dimensioning. Quote

b.muqlueen Posted July 30, 2008 Author Posted July 30, 2008 this or any drawing this has happened in are to big to attach. any drawing i start from scratch this doesnt happen Quote
b.muqlueen Posted August 12, 2008 Author Posted August 12, 2008 ok here is an actual example wrong pspace dim.dwg Quote
irelandmc Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 Was there ever a solution to this? I am having the same problem in ACAD2013. I set a linear dimension, and then when I continue it the next dimension appears to be in inches of paper instead of drawing units. Any ideas? Thanks, Mike Quote
rkent Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 ok here is an actual example If you are trying to dimension a 3D object in an Iso view you won't get the actual length. You will have to apply a scaling factor to the dim. Quote
nestly Posted September 9, 2013 Posted September 9, 2013 I don't normally dimension in PSpace, but I did try to replicate your result. My initial thought is that you're not snapping to a modelspace object. Can you post a sample drawing? Quote
