I have a few laptop user's in our office. When they are in the office and connected to our network they are fine. When they take the laptop home they can no longer see our standard files. I need a way to allow them access to our company standards when outside the office. What is the best way to set thhis up.???

VPN? don't know how it works, but that's what I got on my laptop.

Beats me, not a network guru.

I did however backup important drawings, spec's, etc., to an online server.

I can download from the online server anywhere I have an internet connection and my password. Works well enough for my needs.

encouraging downloading of info is the first step to everybody hoarding old copies of things locally which just shouldn't happen, and you can't explain to people why they shouldn't do it - if they can, they will

Tiger's suggestion is most sensible

I keep my networked standard files (pen tables, cui's, templates, project files, etc.) all "made avaliable offline" within windows explorer.

I run into some trouble when others try to make changes to the same files I am editing and occasionally I need to create manual backup files to resolve conflicts but mostly it works well.

With it, I can work completely off line and have access to all the same stuff as when I am conncted. And it will automatically update anything from the server when I am connected save the occasional trouble.

I do also use a VPN to sync when I am out of the office, but I do not work online wit the VPN because it can be painfully slow.

I would need to really trust someone before I gave them the same setup that I have.

My $.02 :)
