frostrap Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 Good morning! A co-worker of mine just had an issue that I also came across a few months ago. This happened on AutoCAD 2004, and I haven't tested it on other versions. With a moderate sized file open, we left click in the drawing area to make a selection. As soon as we right click, the computer hangs for 20 to 40 seconds. During this time, task manager (and perfmon) show a really large amount of resources being hogged by AutoCAD. After a period of time the computer thaws out and the selection box is visible on screen. As soon as we left click again (to finalize the selection) the computer repeats the hanging process. Once the computer thaws the second time, the objects are selected and we can do whatever we need with them This seems to happen on only a few drawings. It doesn't seem to have anything to do with the number of objects being selected, but does seem to happen on larger drawing files. We've tried purging the drawing with no luck. Any ideas? - Joe Quote
smorales02 Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 Have you tried running an audit on the files? Does it only happen at his workstation or at everyones with those certain files? Quote
ReMark Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 Does this "hanging" happen at set intervals of time (say, every 2 hours)? Quote
frostrap Posted September 9, 2008 Author Posted September 9, 2008 We did try an Audit and it didn't seem to help. Didn't find any errors either. I'm not sure about how frequently it's happening, but I think it's specific to a drawing, not to a workstation (I'm not positive though). What are you thinking as far as frequency is concerned? Quote
ReMark Posted September 10, 2008 Posted September 10, 2008 Hard drive is "churning". Can be caused by Windows indexing files. The feature is turned on by default and happens at a regular time interval. It can be turned off. You'll recognize churning by either the noise or the fact your hard drive activity light is very active. Could try Wblocking the drawing out and then opening up the new file to test whether the same thing happens. Just save it (obviously) under a different name. Quote
