I have a 3d model that is comprised of several parts that I have inserted from external files (using the insert command). When I try to use slice, the whole model is not sliced. The only objects that are sliced, are the ones that were created in the file itself, and not those that are imported.

How can I slice the whole model, with the imported files?

What format are the inserted objects? Slice only works on Solids, so if you have imported models that are .3ds format, Slice will not have any effect on them.

The inserted files are standard autocad .dwg files containing 3d-solids (extruded polylines)

How did you Insert them? Are they Blocks? If so, you will need to Explode them if you want to Slice them.

I have inserted them using the insert command (type i in the command line). I tried exploding the parts, but I still have the same problem.

After Exploding, click on the object to select it and then right click and select Properties from the pop up menu. When the Properties palette opens, check the list box at the top of the palette. It will tell you if the object is a Solid or a Mesh.

You may need to upload the file here for us to look at.

It worked! I have tried exploding before with no luck, but after trying again, most of the objects were sliced. The ones that weren't, were not 3d solids. I replaced the parts that weren't 3d solids, and the slice went fine.

Thanks!
