Rickard5 Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 Hello, I'm having an Insanely hard time with a model I need to create, What I am trying to model is a shape akin to a Propeller. this part has a teardrop shape cord that tapers and twists along it's length, or even imagine an airplane wing, I have the rib shapes in place and I can skin it with a mesh or a 3d surface but I need it to be a solid so that I can subtract holes and so I can Shell it do I can export the solid as a .stl so I can make a SLA model of the part Would using a Combination of Autocad and 3d Studio maybe do the trick? I appologise if my discrioption is not making sence, but l I've been trying to draw this part for the last 14 hours and 5:30 AM and I'm Seriously Lost. The Tools I have at hand are Autocad 2002 and 3dStudio 9. Since these parts are going to be for my own personal Race Car, I'd like to keep the tolerances rather tight What I am trying to model is actualy the A Arms for a DeDion Rearend, and the tubs are an Airfoil shape that tapers along it's length, and Will have to have a Slight twist over half it's Length. I plan to make Paper SLA models of them with Rapid Pro , and once I have that fitted I'll use the same .stl to Machine the parts in top and bottom halfs on a 5 axis Machining center then TIG the top and bottom halfs together to a hollow part that will give me more strainght than a solid part Quote
ReMark Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 The mesh-to-solid Lisp routine here won't work for you? Quote
Rickard5 Posted October 29, 2008 Author Posted October 29, 2008 The mesh-to-solid Lisp routine here won't work for you? is there such a thing ? omg THAT WOULD WORK THANKS MAN Quote
feargt Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 Look in the CADTutor AutoLISP Archive. Today is the first time I looked in this Autolisp archive Am I looking in the right place? http://www.cadtutor.net/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=30 Is this really all that there is archived on this site? I have seen lots of lisp files posted since I joined here, I can't believe that they are not archived. That is assuming I'm looking in the right place Quote
GhostRider Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 yes that is the right area specifically for the mesh-to-solid lisp is: http://www.cadtutor.net/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=30 Quote
ReMark Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 Come to think of it, you're right. There have been a fair number of lisp routines posted yet they were never gathered up and placed within the AutoLisp archive. I think that was because they were done on a spur-of-the-moment basis to answer some pressing need in any number of different forums. No real thought as to their potential future usefulness to others was given. Or so it appears. Quote
Rickard5 Posted October 30, 2008 Author Posted October 30, 2008 Mark that worked so [well], THanks man that was the answer to all my Pains Quote
ReMark Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 Rickard5: I'm happy to hear that you achieved the results you were after. You're entirely welcomed. Quote
shift1313 Posted October 31, 2008 Posted October 31, 2008 sounds like a cool project richard. not many cars use a dedion rear end so you must be working on something vintage. old jags used it didnt they, lotus', unless of course you have a super 7. at any rate there are other programs that make quick work of the surface to solids things. 07+ has surface to solid built in but it doesnt work on mesh surfaces. It sounds like you have some nice toys to play with. Quote
Rickard5 Posted November 1, 2008 Author Posted November 1, 2008 It sounds like you have some nice toys to play with. NO I don't have many toys, Just some people do useless things like eat and buy cloths, I buy tools. A man can always find work if he's got tools plus I like junk yards [edited] Quote
