Aussiemike Posted November 1, 2008 Posted November 1, 2008 Hello Team, I am wondering if anyone can shed some light on the problem. I open a couple of autocad drawings work on them then close Autocad the problem is that the memory isnt being released as you can see on the attached picture. Any ideas? ReMark Posted November 1, 2008 Posted November 1, 2008 Am I reading that correctly? Do you actually have eight AutoCAD sessions running concurrently? What are the specs on your computer? What OS are you running? Quote
ReMark Posted November 1, 2008 Posted November 1, 2008 An article about freeing up memory on your pc. http://nevyan.blogspot.com/2006/11/free-up-ram-on-your-pc.html One other memory hog is the Windows indexing services. Disable that feature. Quote
Aussiemike Posted November 1, 2008 Author Posted November 1, 2008 Hi ReMark, that was 8 open drawings inside the one session, that were then closed, the PC is a standard HP laptop NW9440 2gb ram, running windows xp sp3. Will give the memory software ago. Quote
ReMark Posted November 1, 2008 Posted November 1, 2008 Flushing that memory seems like the only way to go. I've used a couple of these programs in the past and they do seem to work. One other suggestion would be to max out the RAM in your laptop if you can afford to. Quote
Aussiemike Posted November 3, 2008 Author Posted November 3, 2008 Found the problem NORTON 36O VERISON 2... Is causing it... Heres what other users are saying also; Causes multiple instances of MS Office apps to remain open and with memory committed, even though they are shut (360 1.0 does not have this bug). If you open/close MS Word five times, for instance, WINWORD.EXE will show up in Task Manager processes five times, each with full memory commited. Happens with all Office apps. An active user will run out of memory very quickly. Also, if you use PC Anywhere, this will render it unusable. Cheers Mike Quote
ReMark Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 That's very interesting. So what is the fix? Do you have to disable Norton 360? It seems some of these types of programs have unintended inter-reactions with other programs that are just as frustrating as having a virus. Quote
Aussiemike Posted November 3, 2008 Author Posted November 3, 2008 Um, I dont have a fix as yet, I have emailed Symantec and are still waiting on a reply Quote
ReMark Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 Can you temporarily disable Norton 360 and see what happens? Quote
