When I try to save my drawing I get this box saying that it can't save it.

I have no idea why it is doing it. There is no one else who has the drawing open. I even tried restarting AutoCAD but I still get the message. Anyone know why this is happening?

It's not because somebody in your office has been reading the prank thread is it?

That better not be the reason- because it isn't funny!

I just restarted my computer and it still is doing it. Is there a way to fix it?

That does work! I'll have to use that solution for now until I can figure out why it won't let me save it to the P drive. Thanks so much!

(I hate it when there is a simple solution- then you always feel so retarted for not figuring it out yourself. )

nooooo - that's not a solution! It was a test!

your C:drive won't be backed up in the same fashion as the server, and you should never store drawings locally (unless that's how your company works)

if it's just a problem storing to P:, rather than a problem storing to anywhere, that suggests that the problem is with the server and is an IT problem rather than a problem with your computer or AutoCAD installation!

Check out the similar thread at the bottom from matramurena. They seem to have had the same issues. Hope that will help!

I had a quick look at that and discounted it as it was a 'command in progress' issue, but on more thorough reading, the solutions offered may still work in this case

I know it's not a solution- I meant a quick fix! I have a deadline I'm working with.

I just need to update some plans asap so that I can e-mail them over to somebody. In the meantime I have IT working on it. I'm going to save it on my C: drive just so that I can e-mail it and hopefully IT can get it fixed by the end of the day. Then I can save it to the P: drive.

If you're resorting to saving to C:, create yourself a back up somewhere - even if it's only by way of emailing the drawings to eg a colleague so they can be retrieved if necessary

Save the drawing to a CD, DVD or a flash drive. Unless your computer is on its last leg saving to the hard drive (I'd make a DWG folder) for a day or two shouldn't be a problem.

Maybe someone has it xreffed into another drawing and their option for xreffs is not set at "enabled with copy".

I don't think that that is the case because I have never had any problems saving these same drawings before- and they haven't been opened for a while.

stab in the dark here - has somebody archived the xreffed drg?

Nope.

One of the jobs hasn't been worked on for a couple of months and another job for about a week. There have never been any problems with them before, that's why I'm so confused.

Is there a left over file lock (*.lk#) from an improperly closed session associated with this drawing?

The IT guy fixed it! Apparently it was the security, he had to change the settings and stuff.

Thank you everyone for your help!

You're not alone on that. I get angry when I can't figure out a problem. Then I can't think straight and find the solution that's embarresingly obvious :x
