Hi guys, im trying to create a square metal grid material thats transpercent.

i.e the squares are see through and the rest of the model can be seen through these.

Im aware that "masks" have to be used for this purpose, but I havn't used these before and I am not really sure where to start at all!

I do have access to Image software like GIMP

here is a bitmap that im trying to use-

Or if anyone can show me how to simply create a part like that by using techniques in max I would be happy!

cheers:)

simply create an inverted colour texture in photoshop and apply it as an Opacity map. This will give you a 'hole' wherever a black colour area is.
