CTB or Bylayer/Proprieties

hello there, im writing this thread today because i would like to have your opinions about the way you print your drawings. Do you still using the ctb in order to connect a specific color with a lineweight or you are more likely to use bylayer and the proprieties of each object to define their lineweight?

i hope you've understood my question, otherwise i will be here after lunch to explain it better :D

I prefer to use the ctb file. I had a drawing yesterday that wouldn't print out properly yesterday all due to it having a lineweight setting. It wouldn't have been so bad if it was in this office but it was being printed using True View in our office in the USA! Somebody had defined 2 layers to be 1mm thick (don't know why) and some text had got on that layer. Despite ticking the correct box this one drawing refused to print correctly for him.

both have their advantages and disadvantages, but when your creating plan drawings when emphasis needs to be varied on different plans, e.g background darker, symbols lighter and vice versa I think stb is the best option; especially when using layer filters to group objects that can instantly be turned from thick to feint.

Of course the .ctb can have full monochrome and different shades, but IMO its not as flexible as the .stb system.

Our office uses both. Sometimes on the same projects, which isnt particularly great for batch plotting.

well, i forgot to mention the way i work, sorry to those that do different than me but i rather want the lineweight entity set bylayer or by element. its the way i've been working all the time, for me its easier that ctb once you just need to set the linewheith as you wish and then send the file to anyone else without the ctb file attached

but many of us have drawings on our system that pre-date the lineweight option. That's partly why it took so long to find the thick lines yesterday - none of us have ever used it!
