size of objects on layer

Hi all, i have a drawing that's over the normal size - its not huge but its not running as it should.

there's nothing out of the ordinary on the drawing, I cant figure out what's taking up so much memory

Is there a way to find out how much space each layer is taking up?

thanks in advance.

In the drawing theres something i cant delete, cant quick select it & erase all wont work - its telling me its not in current space

Nothing in paper space, cant see anything when z' extents.

Have you tried the basics; turned all the layers on. Wiepout frames on, pdmode etc?

On an intimately related topic, has anyone ever figured out a way to track down all the references that keep a layer from purging? Connect Project Tech's "ghost" objects have to register somewhere somehow as valid items, or an audit would get rid of them. I'd love to have a command that gave me a list of everything on a particular layer, not just the visible entities.

What about setting a layer state where all layers are turned on. Then using quick select with this state active to select all the items on the layer.

i have nothing in the drawing, yet its over 2mb?!

only layer 0 & def' - nothing in paper space.

if i copy anything from the original drawing it brings over this 'ghost' object, could it be something to do with the xref?
