foster8 Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 Is it advisable to purge drawings before issuing to a client and why..?? Cheers Quote
skipsophrenic Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 I do it on a regular basis as it get's rid of all unused blocks/text styles . . .etc. If you do this you reduce the drawing size so it doesn't take up as much memory their end Quote
Attila The Gel Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 The guy before me didn't know the purge command, neither did I untill 3 mounths ago, made my work easier. Smallers sizes to begin with helps allot if you have a slow computer. and all the junk that skipsophrenic mentioned. its like cleaning your bedroom once in a wile. Quote
EMS_0525 Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 i use purge, audit and -PU all the time. Quote
LifeoRiley0 Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 Also adviseable to unload any unused XREF's as this makes for smaller files. Quote
soleary Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 Is it advisable to purge drawings before issuing to a client and why..??Cheers Don't be 'afraid' to use purge either. It won't erase anything that's being used in the drawing, only the things that aren't being used and therefore just taking up unnecessary space. Quote

I've reduced files by as much as 80-90%, 'PURGE ALL', one of my best friends! A real time saver for emailing drawings to clients! Quote
fuccaro Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 I don't bother with purge while drawing. Once a project is finished I use to batch Purge, Zoom to Extents and eventually save back in R200 format all the drawings from within that directory. Quote
ReMark Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 Despite the size of my hard drive I am a firm believer in purging my drawings before saving them and posting them to our engineering website. Reduced file size is a plus as is a drawing that doesn't contain a lot of left over garbage. A good house-keeping habit to get into. Quote
Galingula Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 I remember the old days when you had to type "y" "enter" for each item. You could tell some one was purge by the keyboard racket Quote

I have a small Avery™ on the bottom of my monitor, "PURGE", a note to myself. Quote

CadKid Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 i think it would be good to use it before u send it to a client cleans up all the unesscary junk. when i get electronic as-builts i have to take all the utilites and insert them to our xreferences. Quote
fuccaro Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 I have some blocks saved in my templates. Purge deletes the ones unused in the current drawing. I see no reason to send them to the client. Quote
