tds73 Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 hello to all, i have searched the forums with no real luck. i always have problems doing a search, just can't seem to word what i am looking for correctly. anyways, i am looking for some plans for a garage. i would just like them as a reference on how to draw one correctly. i am not looking for "free plans". i already know what i want my garage to be like i just do not know how exactly to draw it in autocad to fullfil what an inspector or builder would want. i am sort of new to autocad but have decent knowledge of drawing with it. i am building 40x 60'. not sure yet whether to stick build or pole build. i would really like to design and draw it myself. plus, i am taking an autocad class right now and final project is due soon and i would like the garage to be mine. so, any info would be greatly appreciated(books, websites, etc.) perhaps someone may have some already that they would be willing to share. even a pdf would be helpful. thanks Quote
CmdrDuh Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 I will forward you some plans later. Have all kinds of stuff at home Quote
tds73 Posted December 2, 2008 Author Posted December 2, 2008 that would be awesome. being new to this site (at least as being a registered user), how does that work? is my email available to you? or do i need to pick them off forum post? Quote
tds73 Posted December 2, 2008 Author Posted December 2, 2008 cool, i will watch for them. thanks Quote
Noahma Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 make sure you call your local jurisdiction to get an idea of what they want. The requirements are going to be different per area. Quote
tds73 Posted December 3, 2008 Author Posted December 3, 2008 Thanks for the advice. I am in touch with the building inspector. I am at this point just interested in some ideas on where to start my drawings. Like how much detail is "normal", what views to draw, stuff like that. I just like to have something to look at and compare to what I am drawing. I guess it is a learn by example type thing. Quote
tds73 Posted December 4, 2008 Author Posted December 4, 2008 CmdrDuh, Any luck finding some drawings? Quote
BOB'27T Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 May this be of help? http://justgarageplans.com/ Quote
Tankman Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 I will post them here. Love the avatar! I lived in Mesa, '70-'73. and found a copper Arizona license plate near Apache Junction or Bisbee. I couldn't believe 100% copper, well, it's now in a friends tag collection. Didn't have a garage but my carport was very nice! Quote
tds73 Posted December 5, 2008 Author Posted December 5, 2008 BOB'27T, thanks for the input. i really want to draw(attempt) the plans myself and just need a "guideline". i have a floor plan set up.additionally i figured this would be a good final project for my class. Quote
ReMark Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 Walk into any Home Depot or Lowe's and in the front of the store you'll find all kinds of books of plans for houses, kitchens, bedrooms, garages, etc. At least with a book you'll most likely get a plan view and usually a front elevation. That should be more than enough to get you started. Quote
CmdrDuh Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 250k is the size limit here. Do you have email I can send to? Quote
BIGMIKE09281946 Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 In a post to the Beginner's Forum yesterday I suggested a download page with drawings that newbie roookies could DL. This could be something that might fit the bill. However, we don't want to infringe on anyones property do we? Quote
tds73 Posted December 5, 2008 Author Posted December 5, 2008 However, we don't want to infringe on anyones property do we? Please expand on this. Did I miss something? Quote
BIGMIKE09281946 Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 The drawings that would be posted should only be the property of the poster, or posted with the permission of the actual artisan to whom the drawing was created. There are plenty of images available for download on the Internet, but the majority of them do not contain dimensions. This is the subject of one of my most recent post's. Quote
Brooklyn Posted December 6, 2008 Posted December 6, 2008 tds73, your local planning & zoning will most likely require a full set drawings that include; Plot Plan with dimensions of where the structure will be placed detailed with required set backs from property lines Floor Plan with dimensions of all exterior & interior walls, required nailing schedule chart, sheer schedule chart, & General notes (get info from local planning & zoning) Foundation Plan with dimensions & section details that illustrate the width, depth & P.S.I. of your concrete footings (get info from local planning & zoning) Roof Framing Plan with section details of how the roof trusses or rafters are attached to the bearing walls, how the trusses or rafters are braced & all header sizes over all openings such as windows & doors (get info from local planning & zoning) Electrical Plan detailed with High & low voltage wire's, receptacles (G.F.C.I. also), exterior & interior lights, smoke detectors (if required by your local planning & zoning), etc. (get info from local planning & zoning) Mechanical Plan If you plan of heating & cooling your garage, that illustrates how you plan to heat & cool your garage. (get info from local planning & zoning) Plumbing Plan If you plan on bringing in water, details all hot & cold water lines to all plumbing fixtures along with a drain & vent fixture unit chart (get info from local planning & zoning) Elevation Plan that will show what the finished structure will look like from all elevations (north, south, east, & west), height of the structure from final grade & theoretical (natural) grade, how the structure is vented (if required by your local planning & zoning) As you can see you will need to speak with your local planning & zoning to obtain all of the necessary building code & requirements in your part of the world. I would try to get my hands on a set of drawings done by a local draftsmen in your area to get a good perspective on what he/she drew to satisfy you local planning & zoning dept. Maybe you local planning & zoning dept has a sample drawing for you to view? That would be a great help for you. Quote
tds73 Posted December 8, 2008 Author Posted December 8, 2008 CmdrDuh, I am not trying to bug you, just wondering if you got the pm I sent you. I am not sure if I have things set right to do it. Quote
tds73 Posted December 8, 2008 Author Posted December 8, 2008 Brooklyn, Thanks for all that. I never thought of calling the planning/zoning to see if they have a sample. I will do that. Figure if I call them now, I should get a response by , oh say February. But it is worth a try. Thanks again. Quote
