Area display in Metric?

Recommended Posts

Is it possible for my AutoCAD to display, in the properties toolbar, an area in Metric? The drawing was created using imperial units, but now the government would like all calculations in Metric.

Thank you.

well you could scale everything by 25.4 (asuming inches to mm) and noy areas will be correct in sq mm. But I don't believe there's any way to have AutoCAd report in dual units.

check _INSUNITS and _INSUNITSDEFSOURCE and _INSUNITDEFTARGET all should be '1' (inches) in your current drawing.

than open a new drawing set everything metric in there units, _INSUNITS and _INSUNITSDEFSOURCE and _INSUNITDEFTARGET all to 4 (milimeter)

than bring in your current drawing in there using insert command. so your drawing will be now in proper in metric units. & there you can selct the boundry & see the area in metric.

Is Hawaii goin' metric?

I've scaled many a drawing as CarlB states.

Works well enough. :geek:

There's a note in my title block, "ALL DIMENSIONS IN INCHES."

After the scale up, change title block note, "ALL DIMENSIONS IN MILLIMETERS."

I thought (?) I did see somewhere at one time, a way to get two dimensional units in AutoCAD.

yes dimension can be done in dual units by 'selcting display alternate unit' in 'dimension style' dialoguebox under 'alternate units' but not sure if area can be diaplayed in dual units. will try out later if time permits.
