I'm not sure how to explain this properly but here goes...

When i hit a short cut key in autocad (eg: shotcut keys assigned to zoom extents, snaps, etc) i have noticed that there is a few seconds delay (anywhere from 2 to 6 secs) before the command actually intiates.

During the delay, autocad appears to lock up or freeze.

It is interesting to note however, that the cursor is visible in the command prompt after i hit the shortcut button and the cursor moves across the command line (in a similar manner to if you were typing a command) except that there is no text visible as it moves to the right. Once the curser gets to the end of the 'invisible text' command, the text for the shortcut is displayed and the command initates.

This is only a recent occurance and i cant think of anything that would have changed in autocad by way of settings or preferences. I dont tend to change and settings or preferences in cad once they are set up. The only thing i can recall adding is 1 or 2 lisp functions about three weeks ago but this problem has only become apparent in the last week.

Any ideas? I am about to resort to not using shortcuts so that i can draft quicker. Crazy, i know.

Hello geo

I think i have experienced something similar to your problem, but ive not had the 'invisible text' things which baffels me

My problem was sorted with a Complete AutoCAD

re-install.

i know it is the long way round but have you tryed re-installing it? then re-inserting all your lisps and shortcuts? if so then i will go and have a think and get back to you.

:) :?

have you got "Object Snap tracking" on by any chance? This threw us for a long time. Press F11 and try again.

I haven't tried doing a full re-install yet. I have however done an installation repair to no avail. May give re-installing a go if i cant find a solution soon.

Otrack is off, i find this function a hinderance so dont use it at all.

I wonder if it might be a hardware thing, although i have'nt noticed problems with other applications...

Thanks for the suggestions.
