john1983 Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 Hi sorry about this question and im sure there is a vey easy explanation and probably a tutorial on how to do this but I cant find it, I have looked under changing layer names but when I do what is said they dont save. so I thought I would ask, here goes... I am wanting to create new layer names that will be in the layer drop down list evertime I open a new drawing, at the moment im having to type in my new layer names everytime I do a new drawing which takes ages to do. Is there way to do it?? Sorry if I have wasted peoples time by not looking in the right place. P.s Im using AutoCad 2009 Thanks in advance John Quote
Attila The Gel Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 Welkom to the forum john. Look for Create templates. open a new drawing and make all the layers you want, demension styles and textstyles you want, then chose save as and clikc on file type and select drawing templates .dwt. Save your drawing. (dont forget to name it) Now when you open a new drawing you can select file type .dwt and u should be able to open the drawing you saved with all your layers and layouts and all that you have created. I'm sure the others will explain it much better if you dont understand a word i'm saying. Quote
A1DWG Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 Hi John, I think what you need to do is create your own custom template. Dont worry its not difficult. Simply start a new drawing using the File>New> from the dropdown and select either the ISO or non ISO for metric or imperial to suit. Create all of your layers, etc and SaveAs and change the file format to a template. Next time you start a new drawing, start with your template. You could alternatively create all the layers etc in a drawing and import using Design Center. Attila - You beat me by 60 secs! I must type faster next time... Quote
MaxwellEdison Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 What your looking for sounds like a template. You can find some information on creating them here. Quote
