Hey All,

I've got another rookie question. I'd like to be able to take the text from a .dwg and put it in to a .doc. Is there any way to do this?

In AutoCAD, type "ddedit" without quotations and select the text you want to copy. Ensure that the text is highlighted. Hit CTRL-C for copy. Open your .doc file, hit CTRL-V for paste.

this appears to only work on single text entities. Is it possible to select all and copy? I've got about 1,000 words to copy.

If the text is in different locations i.e. inserted using separate commands, then I don't think it's possible.

It seems like a strange request (no offense intended) - but even if you could do this, wouldn't you have to format everything in Word anyway to get your desired result??

Use Txt2Mtxt, select the text you want to export to make them Mtext; Highlight > Ctrl+C > Ctrl+V

none taken. I'm taking a list of standard abbreviations that had been drawn in acad and using most of the text in an appendix for the office standards. It's just time consuming zooming on each word and jumping back and forth between programs.

wow, nice trick! Those two tricks together did exactly what I needed. And yes, now I get to format for the next hour. =)

Thanks,

Well, it might, but I tried earlier and it crashed AutoCAD AND Word.

I assume this only works if the text is drawn using DTEXT? If there are various "Mtexts" in different locations, then I don't think it's possible to copy them all together. Or is there a way to do this?

Explode them first.

Nice solution! Good to know
