nicnicman Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 While looking through my school textbook, Applying AutoCAD 2008, I came across a project to draw a pepper mill. The most difficult part of the drawing is the rotor. In fact, the textbook instructs the student to "approximate it appearance" as it involves "a drawing complexity that is beyond the scope of this textbook". For a final project, I was hoping to create this rotor accurately with no approximations. If I had a scanner I would scan the problem from the text book and post it, but I don't. Attached is a single rotor blade as specified by the text book and a direct quote from the problem. The one part I do not understand is where it says that the rotor blade "is rotated about its axis 10 degrees outward from the center of the rotor". I can't seem to find a suitable tutorial on the internet. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know. If more information is needed I will do my best to supply it. Rotorblade.dwg Quote

JD Mather Posted January 2, 2009 Posted January 2, 2009 I can't seem to find a suitable tutorial on the internet. http://home.pct.edu/~jmather/content/CAD238/AutoCAD_2007_Tutorials.htm Check them all, but especially the star and drill tutorials. my school textbook, Applying AutoCAD 2008 BTW - AutoCAD is obsolete software for a student to be using up valuable time to prepare for the future. For something like this you should be learning one of the Autodesk next-generation 3D products like Autodesk Inventor. Students can download Inventor and other Autodesk 3D products (no vanilla AutoCAD) for free from this Autodesk website http://engineersrule.org Quote
shift1313 Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 jd, do you happen to know anyone in the autodesk community? I have been waiting for my confirmation for over a month now, as well as another student/member of this forum. I have resubmitted several times with no luck, just curious. nicnic, you dont happen to have a picture of a real one do you? Quote

I have been waiting for my confirmation for over a month now, as well as another student/member of this forum. I have resubmitted several times with no luck, just curious. You should be more specific - there are several Autodesk Communities. From the rest of your post I assume you are referring to the Autodesk Student Community. Some of my students have had trouble as well in getting confirmation (and for our edu addresses it is supposed to be instant, automatically confirmed). You might try this email address (I assume you are student or faculty) to resolve the confirmation problem. Autodesk Student Engineering and Design Community [studentcommunity@autodesk.com] Quote
shift1313 Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 sorry yes the autodesk student community you posted a link to. I will send an email off to them and see what happens. THANKS! And yes I am a part time student and university staff Quote
JD Mather Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 And yes I am a part time student and university staff Things get kind of tied up over there between AU and the end of the year holidays - if they don't contact you by the end of the week drop me an email and I'll give you a direct personal email address for contacting the student community.
