AckermanFancy Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Hi, When turning DWGs into PDFs for issue the file sizes become massive, too big to send in an email. I find this strange because the orginal DWGs were tiny. For example drawing M/002 was 272KB as a DWG but when converted it became 2.45MB. Any ideas why this is and how I could make them smaller? I am using AutoCAD2004LT. Thanks Quote
Cad64 Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 What program are you using to create your pdf's? Quote
AckermanFancy Posted January 5, 2009 Author Posted January 5, 2009 What program are you using to create your pdf's? I am using Abobe PDF Proffesional. I have tryed opening the xrefs seperatly and purging them and searching for any hidden layers or blocks and exploding but I can find nothing, as I said the original DWGs are small but its only when converted they are massive. It's ok for the schematic drawings that dont contain xrefs. I have also tryed binding the xref to the drawing them PDFing but still no luck! Quote

Thanks Normally PDF files created with smaller or equal file size, but if it increases steep then there must be extensive x-referenced drawings associated with your "main" drawing, the drawing size to be converted should be main drawing plus x-ref drawings, if this is the case, there is no way to convert into smaller PDF file size and still keep all the drawing information, what I did to resolve/reduce the file size was try to convert drawing(s) into PNG image, and send out PNG file directly, get a try with the converter software, I found free download from here: http://www.autodwg.com/DWG2Image/ Quote
Dipali Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 when I created pdf from dwg with lots of x-ref, dwg size was 284 kb. pdf created with 'DWG to PDF' - The file size is 2.6 mb:shock: pdf created with 'cutePDF writer' - the file size is 1.5 mb:o Quote
RobDraw Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 I haven't tried this "Hip Tip" but it might be worth checking out. http://lynn.blogs.com/lynn_allens_blog/2007/04/on_to_orlandoan.html Quote
f700es Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Be careful with Acrobat Pro. With certain newer versions you can have the PDF leave the layers in tack which will increase your file size. You can turn this off and the file size should be less. You can also adjust your file setting in the Acrobat properties box while printing to PDF to adjust the file size. Quote
