skipsophrenic Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 I'v been asked to do a detail of a standard railway switch but can't get my head around it properly, its a 2 trak to 1 track joining. Does anyone know where best to get a detail i can use for REFERENCE only? Thanks in advance. P.S. have searched forums already an no joy. Quote
MaxwellEdison Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Have you done a Google image search, or perhaps a search for model train track pieces? Some of the detail available in quality model train pieces is astounding. Quote
skipsophrenic Posted January 5, 2009 Author Posted January 5, 2009 yep, unfortunately they're all missing the crucial piece i'm after, the little straight bit where the curve ends parallel to the track (in the 3mm gap! an i need to draw this accurately to 0.125 of a mm) Quote
Strix Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 who wants/needs it, what for, and don't you have a contact who can supply one? I'm not being nosey, I may be able to help if there isn't a commercial reason not to Quote
skipsophrenic Posted January 6, 2009 Author Posted January 6, 2009 It's sorted - was one of engineers at work, and it would probably ended up in a commercial use strix - track layout planning - thnx tho, if i could guarantee it wouldn't be commercially used I'd ask for more. But engineer decided not to go accurate after all, so he ended up with a nice sketch that shows things indicatively - (I think I better note on dwg that bit!) I've been lookin to build up a contact list for a bit - but as No-one i've spotted is approved by where I work, I'm not allowed to ask them, don't you just LOVE red tape! Quote
Strix Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 well that's got me foxed what was it you said your company do again Skip? Quote

ReMark Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Model railroads anyone? http://modeltrains.about.com/od/layoutconstruction/tp/turnouts.htm Quote
skipsophrenic Posted January 7, 2009 Author Posted January 7, 2009 They're good but the piece i had to draw isnt actually shown in those i don't think, i'll have to check an get back to you on it. Quote
Tankman Posted January 7, 2009 Posted January 7, 2009 Go down to your local hobby shop and buy a switch. Then go back to the office and draw it. Then slip, on company time, back to your local hobby shop and request a refund! Or, perhaps your rail supplier can email you a *.dwg or *.pdf file for the rail connection? Quote
Strix Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 The section I work in is in rail Consultancy,Design/upgrade/newbuilds in structures - signal foundations - platforms etc. . . . so what do you need the switch for? I don't see why you can't get the info you need from the client Quote
skipsophrenic Posted January 8, 2009 Author Posted January 8, 2009 so what do you need the switch for? I don't see why you can't get the info you need from the client Track layout's part of what we do as for gettin the info this is an internal job at the moment Quote
