OK. I am an absolute beginner. I am following some directions on how to start a new drawing. I create a new drawing and select the Manufacturing Metic template because I want a title block.

The new drawing opens and I have a tab called Model, and another tab called ISO A3 Title Block.

When I draw on the model block, it does not show up on the ISO A3 Title Block tab.

Does anyone know how I link the two?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Happy,

you need to create a Viewport, which is a "window" which lets you view some or all of the modelspace.

Go to Paperspace and type mv (make viewport) or use the drop down menus, you can then draw a rectangle, which will have a view of the model.

This viewport can be set to scale - click in it so it becomes bold and type zoom>1/(insert scale here)xp - dont forget the xp.

You can also control layers, stretch viewports etc.

This should get you started, if you have any problems post a reply or F1 and check viewports.

Thanks, that helped alot. I have the viewport there, but when I plot the drawing the viewport sqaure appears. Is there a way to make it invisible?

Also, the viewpowt is a rectangle shape, but I need it to fill in a bit more of the space to the left of the title block - how do I modify its shape?

Hi Happy,

put the viewport on layer Defpoints, or a new layer which is set not to print.

With full AutoCAD you can create viewports from closed polylines (or for us with AutoCAD LT, you can put two viewports next to each other).

I think you draw a closed polyline, and from the viewport command choose select object??? Can someone with AutoCAD (not LT) please confirm...

Happy,

To make the viewport invisible, you can put it on the layer DEFPOINTS, which is a non-plot layer. If you want, you can create a layer and call it what you like, ie. Viewport, and in the layer properties manager, (there is the options to turn it on/off, freeze/thaw it, change color, etc), click on the printer icon so that it has a red strike through it, which will hide it when printed, but whatever is in the viewport will still show up.

If you want to modify the shape of the viewport, you can click the corner of the rectangle and drag it. Another option, if you want a funky shape, is to type "vpclip", and click the viewport you want to clip, and press enter on the other commands such as "choose clipping tool or" until it gives you the option to draw a new shape, which can be whatever shape you like. However, it will put the new shaped viewport on whatever layer is current, so if defpoints or your custom layer is not the current, simply change the viewport to it.

Hope this makes sense, any questions please feel free to ask.
