Problem with rolling joint again.

I have cylinder and plane. It is put together on tangent and flush constraints. I like to get cylinder rolling on plane and make cylinder on plane joint. Joint is ok, but both parts is grounded. See pic1.

Making some standard joint is only way to get part ungrounded? I make prismatic joint to get cylinder ungrounded, but then cylinder goes wrong place. See pic2.

How I could do this work?
Some other standard joint, other way to get part ungrounded or maybe possible to change z-axis some other way?

What is good book to learn dynamic simulation on Invertor 11 or is there somewhere good tutorial sites?

are you trying to roll the wheel across the beam? there is a single constraint that you need for rotation/translation. if i can get to a computer with inventor on it i will try to get you a screen shot.

Simple rotation/translation constraint is not the same as a joint created in the Dynamic Simulation environment of Inventor Professional. With a DS joint real physics such as friction come into play.

alright i just played around with this a bit. what version of inventor are you using? are you trying to do a studio animation where you animate your constraints, or are you doing a dynamic analysis in a newer version?

Here is a zip of an avi i did using the dynamic simulation.

this was my first time using inventor 09 and dynamic simulation so im sure JD will have to correct this, but I grounded my beam, put the wheel in the mobile group(right click on your part to change this). I inserted a joint, cylinder rolling on a plane then added various forces to make it roll back and forth using the input grapher.

speaking of which jd, when you setup an animation in the dynamic simulation application and you click on "create studio animation" how to you retain your dynamic settings? or is this possible? In older version of inventor I have used studio animations to animate constraints but this is my first go at the newer setup.
