Select Similar Rules

Is there a way to modify the "rules" of the select similar? When I do a select similar it selects objects I really don't want. I'm trying to avoid using qselect since select similar is quicker.

I thought this was the criteria for the use of Select Similar:

"To use this command, select a single object, then right-click and choose SELECTSIMILAR this would select ALL objects of the SAME type on the SAME layer."

I don't understand how when you use it, objects that you don't want are being selected. Could you elaborate? What object did you pick? What objects did the command select?

I guess what I'm wanting is to give select similar more qualities as qselect would allow. So say if I just want all lines on layer "bob" that are also the same color.

this post got me intrigued. What is SELECTSIMILAR? Its something I've never used as I didn't know it existed. I've now looked in the help file and I'm none the wiser.

I've never seen it in AutoCAD classic (although I'm still using 2008 ), but I use it in MEP all the time. Quite handy :)

Dave:

It is not included in plain AutoCAD. You can stop looking.
