Sections elevation are all on one colour?

when i creat sections and elevations, the image is one colour, how can I make it display the layer colour of each component or even better the material attached?

If i could ever get an Arch. to send us 3D backgrounds to work with i might use the MEP section tools.... However; they never do so i am stuck doing them the old school way........

I do remember something about sub sections and right click edit........
