td88 Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 Earlier today I spontaneously lost the ability to orbit in Sketchup and pan in Autocad with my scroll wheel. I tested the problem on other CAD software and it applies to all. The only thing I can recall doing differently is opening Revit 2008, after not using it for a few months, and doing some drawing. The problem did seem to begin with the opening of Revit but, not sure. I changed to a different mouse and the problem remains. Anyone encountered this? I have noticed a message, which comes up when I look at the mouse settings stating, "some mouse settings may not work properly until you connect a Microsoft mouse to a USB port or set up a Microsoft mouse that uses Blue Tooth technology". This came up while my Microsoft mouse was connected to a USB port and I've never seen that message before today. I have looked at a number of FAQ's and they mostly address the issue within a specific software. This appears to be a hardware issue. Quote
ReMark Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 Is there a PS2 mouse port on the motherboard? Quote
Adam Justice Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 I haven't encountered this, but it would seem that your user interface settings have been changed. Tools>Customize>Interface that menu has all the settings for how your computer interfaces with AutoCAD. It also produces a CUI (Custom User Interface) file. I am not sure if the file is produced only after you alter settings, or if it is always present. It may be possible you deleted the file. Quote
f700es Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 I agree with Remark on it not being a CAD issue but a computer hardware/software issue. Can you disable your bluetooth? Maybe a port conflict? Quote
Adam Justice Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 I agree with Remark on it not being a CAD issue but a computer hardware/software issue. Can you disable your bluetooth? Maybe a port conflict? It would seem like that, if the other programs & windows is not allowing use of the scroll wheel. I think he said that it was just CAD programs. Quote
f700es Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 Well, If it affects ACAD and SU then I would start with hardware conflicts. Quote
td88 Posted January 29, 2009 Author Posted January 29, 2009 Is there a PS2 mouse port on the motherboard? I don't know hardware very well so, PS2 is slightly unfamiliar. This would be for the older style cylindrical connector at the end of the mouse cord? Yes, there is a mouse PS2 port on the back of the CPU. My newer Intellipoint mouse has a USB connector and the older Bellkin mouse, I used to test the universality of the problem, has a PS2 connector with an adaptor so, I've never used the PS2 port for a mouse. I should mention, there are two new problems today, of which, because of their coincidence with the panning problem yesterday, I'm a little suspicious. I went to Autocad today and, when I roll the scroll wheel on the mouse, it scrolls the drawing up and down in addition to the panning not functioning. The other issue is, in the photo wizard, when downloading photos attached to emails, I'm getting 100's of photos showing up in the wizard, which I've never downloaded. They are not checked for printing but, are available. I'm trying not to immediately jump to the conclusion that all is related and a virus but, it is quite coincident. Thanks, Tim Quote
td88 Posted January 29, 2009 Author Posted January 29, 2009 Well, If it affects ACAD and SU then I would start with hardware conflicts. f700es and others, Here's where I am. I phoned HP. I'm still under warranty. We were on phone for 2 hr.'s. Bottom line. They claim it's OS problem but, were quite thorough. When we got off, I changed to the Belkin mouse, installed the old drivers and the problem went away. When the HP guy searched, using the error message for keywords, he found complaints about cord loose connection problems with the MS mouse, however, when the Belkin was installed, I got the same error message as I did with the MS I'm happy I have functionality but, doubt the basic problem is gone. Just covered up with a different mouse. As for the other issues, I think I was correct in not thinking all was related. Happy they're not related problems, still have problems. Thanks for your ideas, Tim Quote
td88 Posted January 30, 2009 Author Posted January 30, 2009 Well, If it affects ACAD and SU then I would start with hardware conflicts. f700es, ReMark, Adam, One question on the old mouse. I'd like to uninstall the old MS Intellipoint drivers and update/re-install, just to see if it helps the panning. However, I'm wondering, since the orig. drivers were the one's, which came included in XP and not manufacturer drivers, by clicking uninstall, am I removing/deleting the drivers from XP or simply uninstalling drivers but, leaving them in the XP folder for my future use? Seems obvious but, wanted to check before the old click. Tim Quote
