CZSteve Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 Quite often I'll plot to a pdf to e-mail to a customer. I've downloaded various free pdf writers and CutePDF seems to offer the most options. They have pretty much all lengths available in the 24" & 36" width except for the 36" length is only available as 22" x 36". Any way of loading or changing so I have a 24" x 36" option? I know, close but I hate wasting that 2". Thanks Steve Quote
Dipali Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 try using auotdesk's 'dwg to pdf writer' which comes with autocad. Quote
LifeoRiley0 Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 try using auotdesk's 'dwg to pdf writer' which comes with autocad. As Dipali said. This is what we use and have no problems. In the print dialog box in the printer/plotter drop down is the setting we are talking about. Quote
Jaelin Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 Yeah, dwg to pdf works good. The only problem I have had out of it is part of the time it won't print my aerial images I have behind my drawing. It'll print all my linework, text, etc. but not the aerial image. I don't know if it's the file size or what the issue is. Other than that dwg to pdf works great. I also use a free program called PDF reDirect v2. It works really nice, especially if your wanting to plot multiple drawings to one PDF. It'll basically print from AutoCAD to the program and then when you get all of your jobs printed to the program you can then save them all as one file. It's the best, "free" PDF program I've found. chelsea1307 Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 this wont fix your ariel image issue, but if you want to print multiple dwgs to one pdf just use publish and make sure publishcollate is set to 1 (thats the default) for 1 pdf or 0 for multiple pdfs, you can use that with cutepdf as well as the dwg to pdf from autocad Quote

CZSteve Posted January 30, 2009 Author Posted January 30, 2009 not quite following how to accomplish this via 'dwg to pdf' writer. - Within the 'PLOT' pop-up I can select Adobe PDF (or the CutePDF). - When the Standard Adobe PDF is selected I only have the following options under the paper size pop-up: Post Script Custom... Screen 11x17 A4 A3 Executive Legal Ledger Tabloid Letter I've gone into Properties and then plot config editor where I see custom paper sizes and filter paper sizes - don't see or understand how to add custom sizes. Also see in the printer selection drop-down options for DWF eView or ePlot along with plot to web. Just looking to plot and save as a pdf on my desktop in sizes that are not available in the drop-down. When I loaded CutePDF that gave me the best options just by loading that program. Am I being completely ignorant here??? Thanks Steve Quote
chelsea1307 Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 dwg to pdf comes with autocad check your plotters that come with autocad and it should be in there you can find the plotters that come with in C:\Documents and Settings\yourname\Application Data\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2009\R17.2\enu\Plotters just copy that plotter to wherever you have all your plotters stored Quote

Is DWG to PDF a AutoCAD 2002 function?? I'm thinking it may be a newer function. Steve, if it is a 2002 function it should show up in the pull down list of your plotters when you go to the plot screen. Otherwise you will have to go with an external PDF writer. You might try PDF reDirect v2. I know it will plot to 24"x36". I'm not sure about the others cause I've never used them. Quote
Jaelin Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 I'm finding download options on several different sites for AutoCAD 2002 DWG to PDF add-ins. I'm thinking that it wasn't a standard part of AutoCAD but an update/add-in for it. I'm finding these available for download but there a standard $75.00 for the program. If this is what you want you can go to any of the following sites though I have no idea of their credibility as I've never bought from them. http://www.brothersoft.com/dwg-to-pdf-converter-2002-52670.html http://www.fileheap.com/software/autocad_2002.html http://www.filebuzz.com/findsoftware/serial_of_autocad_2002/1.html It may be easier though just to use an external PDF writer which you can get free. There's some options for you out there. Hope this helps. Quote
CZSteve Posted January 30, 2009 Author Posted January 30, 2009 Jaelin, Thanks - the pdf ReDirect did the trick. It's a bit different by providing their own window; might be helpful. Thanks again, Steve Quote

rkent Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 I use Adobe, I can call up properties, Filter Paper Sizes, and check the sizes I want to show, such as Arch D. Those checked will show in the plot dialog under Paper Size. Quote
