Hi all,
I am trying to cut 3 helical groves (each starting 120deg) apart and rotating around the cylinder for about ~270deg on the outer surface of a cylinder but I have no idea how to do it.

The grooves will house a roller ring (geared on the outside to mate with a motor) and the purpose is to induce linear motion into a cylinder from rotary motion of the motor.

Many thanks,

P.B.

You can draw your cylinder, then draw a helix and use the helix as a path to sweep whatever profile you need to cut. If this idea would actually see combustion ill assume that you would maybe want a "V" groove for a tapered roller setup. I had a similar design a few years back but the approach was a little different.

Coil
zip and attach what you have so far.
