chelsea1307 Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 I have been working on updating roomnames quite often lately and was wondering if there is a faster way. I have a block that has two lines for the roomname and a line for the room number and a line for the area of the room. If all the rooms or roomnumbers were being changed to be the same thing its easy but, that never happens. Im thinking there has to be a way to extract the data from the block to an excel sheet and change it to the new information and be able to have it then change whats in autocad, ive got the extraction part but not the changing whats in autocad part. Hope this isnt too confusing, let me know if you need clarification. (btw, i cant use fields) Quote
uddfl Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 I'm not 100% familiar with this feature yet but it sounds like someting you can accomplish using attributes with fields. Quote
chelsea1307 Posted February 10, 2009 Author Posted February 10, 2009 Im pretty sure your right, the problem with that is the engineers in the office have LT and they cant see fields or use fields which created a problem. Im trying to find a way without fields to do it if possible Quote
jammie Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 Have you tried the express tools ATTOUT/ATTIN? Attout writes the attribute information of a block along with its handle to a text file. Edit the file as required and use ATTIN to update the blocks with the new information Quote
chelsea1307 Posted February 10, 2009 Author Posted February 10, 2009 will i have to do that individually by block or can i do that all at once. If i can do it all at once thats exaclty what im looking for Quote
jammie Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 ATTOUT allows you to select multiple blocks to export to a file if this is what you require. The help file is pretty good and is worth checking out Express>help or type (acet-help) to the commandline Quote
