Annotative dimension won't except unicode!

Hi all

Has anyone experienced this problem before:

We are using acad 2009 and I have dimensioned a cross section of a hole, because I have used the linear dimension I have had to text overide with the Ø but it wont except the Ø symbol ! it just does nothing.

I am wondering whether this is someting to do with my annotative dimension style or am I missing something?

It works with text input ok.

Any help is gratefully received.

I have always used, ALT + 216 before and it has worked ok.
