bee18 Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 Hello everyone, I'm new to AutoCAD 2009 and I'm just wondering is it possible to created 2 work spaces in one document? For example have 2 "model" tabs in one file. If it is, please tell me how you would go about creating it. Thanks in advance. Quote
rkmcswain Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 You can't have two model tabs, but you can create multiple tiled viewports in model space, each with it's own display properties. Quote
bee18 Posted February 18, 2009 Author Posted February 18, 2009 Oh wow, I super mod. Um. Thanks for the response, but how would I go about creating the suggestion you made? I don't think you understand exactly how NEWB I am with acad Thanks again. Quote
lpseifert Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 Type in Viewports at the command line and see what happens. Quote
bee18 Posted February 18, 2009 Author Posted February 18, 2009 I typed in Viewports at the command line and got kind'a what I was looking for. Now I have 2 pages (which is great) but what ever I do in one page shows up on the other! Is there a way to work on one page without affecting the other? Quote
ReMark Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 Those "pages" are just model space viewports. Typically you'll setup two or more viewports to view the objects you are working on from different angles. You can't treat them as two separate and distinct entities. Quote
bee18 Posted February 18, 2009 Author Posted February 18, 2009 Ok, thanks for clearing that up. Maybe it would help if I post the instructions for my assignment: Tasks: 1. Create a single AutoCAD document with 2 workspaces (workspace = page) 2. Workspace 1: Location Plan a. Create a workspace which will include the neighbourhood concept plan (JPG) from A3. b. Outline a plot for one of the single family dwellings that you will reference. c. Include all information on separate layers (concept plan, notes). d. Overlay the concept plan with appropriate notations (street names, etc.). d. Include a title block as per the example supplied. The thing I don't understand how to do is the "Create a single AutoCAD document with 2 workspaces" part. Can anyone help? Quote
ReMark Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 I think in this case the word Workspace was used incorrectly. A "Workspace" as far as AutoCAD is concerned is the environment one is working in. AutoCAD 2009 Workspaces include 2D Drafting and Annotation, 3D Modelling and AutoCAD Classic. Look at the bottom of your screen. The fourth icon in from the right should be one that looks like a cog or gear. Put your cursor on it. It should say Workspace Switching right? Click on it. Do you see the same choices I have mentioned? Quote
ReMark Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 Perhaps the "workspaces" being referred to would be Model space (for your objects) and Paper space for your title block and border. Have these terms been used/covered in class? What about Layout? Quote
ReMark Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 bee18: Are you good to go? Perhaps you can get your instructor to clarify what he/she means. Quote
