Inventor File type imports

I'm wondering if anyone can help with the file types Inventor can import.
I would like to import precast cladding panels into Inventor for the Finite element analysis.
I have been given a model in Tekla Structures, which can export most file types, i.e. step, DWG/DXF as well as IFC.
Does anyone know what the best import to Inventor would be and am I likely to lose any information?
Also, I have been told you can attach loads to parts in Tekla Structures, would I be able to transfer these too, or would I have to re input these?

Well as far as i know the dwg/dxf can only be imported into a sketch(ie loosing the 3rd dimension). Im not sure what the best file type would be. Iges will convert the file to a vector format and can export solid, wireframe data.

Inventor can import the following STEP file types: .stp, .ste and .step. Might I suggest you consult Inventor Help and search on the word Import.

I would use STEP, but of course Inventor will also import 3D dwg or dxf, after all - it is an Autodesk product.

Ok, I've attached a sample set of concrete foundations from Tekla - it's only 27kb, so should be a nice easy start. :)

AutoCAD List indicates these are polyface meshes.
Opened in Inventor with Options set to Import.
Copied to Construction Environment and Stitched to Solids.
23 individual solids.
If you want as a single solid Derived Component to combine into one solid.

Thanks for the quick reply - the job I was working on got put on hold, but I'll try it again, I thought dwg's would only work as a 2D sketch.
