View Full Version : Dimension Issue

I have been having this issue when I try to dimension an item in a view port on my layout, and the dimension units are way off. For example if I was measuring something at 3000mm the dimension would be 60. Hmmmm? How do I change this? It doesn't seem to be inches either. Sometimes it will give me the right dims and sometimes not.

I have run into this before. Are the object that you are dimensioning AutoCAD objects? We use a vertical application for AutoCAD to draw our piping and we can't dimension those objects in model space, but we can dimension regular AutoCAD objects.

Not always AutoCAD objects. I work with MillerCAD objects from Herman Miller to create workstations and the like. I usually end up manually overriding the text.

It is bad practice to override the text.
Alot of people on here despise it.

you may not be activating a viewport & dimensioning in paper space over the viewport. to do that you need to set the 'scale factor' under mesurement unit under primary units in dimension style dialoguebox & you need to enter it relative to your viewport scale. from your example the viewport scale seems to be 1:50, so you need to enter 50 as a 'scale factor' value. also don't forget to tick 'apply to layout dimensions only' box if you use this method.
another way to do this without playing with dimension style is to activate the viewport & dimension in model space.

Thank you Dipali. You were very helpful.
And so you know, I don't WANT to make a habit of overriding text, but I was at a loss for what to do... hence asking the question on the forum.
