I have an issue. We had someone draw a part in inventor 10 and my boss wanted him to draw this, save it as a dwg so it could be used in Acad. At get go I thought this was trouble but the HELP said it can be done.

Well none of the inventor copies we have(pro 10 and pro 11) will save as a dwg. they just dont have the file type as an option, even though the help document said they should. Has anyone run into this before?

This has been discussed before. Check this thread: http://www.cadtutor.net/forum/showthread.php?t=30307

perfect, thanks cad. I had tried everything but the aec exchange. I was able to save it as an acis file but nothing ever opened.

I guess my search wasnt very extensive. I put .ipt and .dwg in the search when i should have just left the . off.

So as a recap for those that end up on this thread.

Applications>AEC Exchange >save as dwg solids.

just as another note. i checked the tools>add-ins for inventor 10 and there is a dwg converter but i still dont have any options to export as a dwg in version 10.

i did that jd and for some reason the file showed nothing in Acad. I could open that same file in Inventor or Solidworks but every time I tried it would just be a blank screen in acad. yes i did zoom extents and i tried selecting all so i know nothing was there.

What version of AutoCAD. Autodesk products will only read up to ACIS version 7. Older Autodesk products might not even read v7. When saving the *.sat file click Options and set to ACIS v7 or earlier. (I think current SWx defaults to ACIS v17 or 18).

Autodesk used to use ACIS kernal by Spatial. But when Spatial was purchased by Dassault Systemmes (owner of SWx) things changed.
