How do I convert a drawing from book to Autocad?

I am taking measurements of a floor plan with the 1/4 scale from my Architectural Drafting book. I know how to enter all the measurements into ACAD, but I am not sure if it will plot out to the same size when I get done with it. Any pointers on a process I should follow instead of just taking measurements and hoping they come out the same when I get done plotting it?

I'm a beginner also so hopefully someone more experienced will back me up but you draw in model space full-scale 1:1 and then scale it in paper space using viewpoints.

I'm guessing everything will be good whenever I set all of the plot settings then.
