transparency and coordinates

Hi, I hope someone out there can help. I am trying to get a project set up in map 3D 2009 and am having two problems. 1) I can get some of my source files into my new project with the correct coordinates. but other files that have the same coordinate system for some reason either won't come in at all or will come in at the wrong location. I am using shp files as sources.. has anyone had similar inconsistencies with the coordinate conversion routine?

2) anybody know if you make hatch patterns transparent?
